The Department of Defense employs the Tactical Assault Kit as a comprehensive solution for operational planning, mapping visualization, live video streaming, and administrative functions. This platform enables personnel to transition from bulky tactical computing equipment to lightweight commercial handheld devices. The mapping capabilities and networking modules comply with both military and civilian industry specifications. An integrated development environment allows external organizations to create customized operational features or participate in enhancing the core system architecture. Users have the flexibility to install information packages prior to deployment or synchronize content through wireless connectivity when infrastructure permits.

This application represents the civilian implementation of ATAK, offering a comprehensive suite of geospatial capabilities designed for professional use. The platform provides both connected and disconnected mapping operations, enabling users to work in any environment. Multiple participants can contribute to shared maps simultaneously, while individual users can mark locations, maintain location histories, and disseminate waypoints across their networks. Communication features are extensive, encompassing real-time messaging, document transfer, imagery exchange, video transmission, and live streaming capabilities. Navigation functionality is fully integrated, supplemented by terrain analysis instruments including elevation profiling, thermal visualization, calculated topographic representations, sight-line analysis, and pathway planning. The system supports organizational categorization through thematic tagging and persistent labels. Surveying capabilities include distance calculation, angle determination, and diverse measurement functionalities. Geofencing technology operates across network infrastructure with configurable alert mechanisms. A dedicated tracking feature monitors destination progress, while emergency broadcast functionality allows team members to signal distress situations. The interface accommodates user preferences through a flexible toolbar configuration. Audio communication systems integrate seamlessly with the platform. Imagery can be geographically referenced directly from photographs. A specialized module facilitates medical evacuation procedures. The application includes symbolic representation for numerous emergency response scenarios. Visual presentation encompasses three-dimensional viewpoints with the capacity to render complex geographic models in three dimensions. The software is released under an open source license.

ATAK operates on Android devices running version 5.0 (API 21) or higher. Your mobile device must be equipped with a graphics processing unit compatible with GLES 3.0. There are no particular minimum specifications for internal storage, RAM, or central processing unit. For the best user experience, smartphones should meet or exceed the performance level of a Samsung Galaxy S9, while tablet devices should be comparable to or better than a Samsung Galaxy S2.

TAK CORE serves as a universal foundation that operates across multiple platforms, providing essential features utilized by every application within the TAK ecosystem. This framework emphasizes four primary domains: communication networking, spatial information processing, spatial data display, and spatial information administration.
